David Montero 9936d1956c flash: compile before flashing, stale-build warning, i18n dialog, entitlement seam (#207)
"Flash to real board" no longer needs a prior Compile. The menu item is
enabled for every Arduino/ESP-IDF board (MicroPython keeps its own
gating) and the Flash dialog compiles first when the board has no program
or its code changed since the last build — compiler output streams into
the dialog's console, a red build ends in an error banner there with a
"Recompile & flash" retry, and only a green build reaches the flasher.
Web Serial's port picker needs a user gesture, so the web flow asks the
overlay to grant the port at the click (new WebFlashImpl.preparePort)
before the compile that may take minutes.

Stale detection: compileBoardProgram() now records a fingerprint of the
sources + language + build options (BoardInstance.compiledSourceHash,
utils/sourceFingerprint.ts); the dialog warns and rebuilds when the live
sources differ. utils/boardCompile.ts holds the compile request builder
shared with the toolbar (same files, same options).

The whole dialog and the menu hints are translated (editor.flash.* and
editor.canvas.flashHint.* in the 9 locales); before, every string was
hard-coded English.

Entitlement seam for #207 (desktop "upload to board"): lib/proWebFlash.ts
gains installHardwareFlashGate(); OSS default allows, and when a gate
blocks, the dialog shows a paid-license panel with a "See plans" link
instead of the port picker.

David Montero 534b2ff21b fix(editor): the header measures whether the toolbar strip fits instead of guessing by breakpoint
With the AI chat docked at 1440px, a board with many canvas controls (XIAO:
display + camera + mic + scope) wrapped the strip INSIDE the header — the
canvas controls orphaned on a second line next to a black hole — because
the drop-to-own-bar fallback fired on media-query thresholds (1040 / 1060 /
1400px by chat state) that were only right for one board's strip width.

AppHeader now measures: natural single-row width of the strip (each zone at
its content width) against the room left next to the brand + menus, and
sets app-header--strip-below when it does not fit. Always measured in the
inline layout (class removed, measured, restored before paint) so the
below-state's margins and uncollapsed labels never bias the decision, and
there is nothing to oscillate. Re-measured via ResizeObserver on the strip
host, the brand block and the zones (plus a MutationObserver for the
portaled canvas controls), deferred a frame so a toggle never re-enters
delivery. The three media-query blocks collapse into one class rule; a
1000px window without the chat now keeps one row when the collapsed strip
fits, instead of being forced to two.

David Montero 7fc131d4fb feat(editor): compact file explorer — less indent, smaller icons and rows, 150px default
The explorer rows carried a 26px indent plus 22px file icons, 5px vertical
padding and 12px names in a 165px pane: a lot of margin for a sidebar
whose only job is listing a handful of files, and every px of it was taken
from the code editor. Now: root files indent 16px (12px per nested level),
file icons render at 16px like the folder icon, rows are 3px/6px with an
11px name, the board header actions are 18px, and the header buttons 20px
with a title that truncates before the actions do. The pane defaults to
150px (min 100) and the account footer keeps the first name visible at that
width.

David Montero f09489f498 fix(editor): toolbar never overlaps on a narrow bar; layout switches live in the View menu
Two things went wrong when the window was small and the AI chat docked:

1. Libraries / Output painted over the board selector. The editor zone
has min-width: max-content, but its child .editor-toolbar-wrapper is
an inline-size query container, and size containment makes it
contribute zero intrinsic width — so the floor resolved to nothing,
flexbox squeezed the zone under its buttons and the bar never got to
wrap. Containment is now off for the in-bar mount (the wrapper keeps
it for its standalone mobile mount); the two label collapses that
depended on it are re-keyed to the unified-toolbar container at the
same thresholds the canvas controls use (1010 / 905px), so the row
degrades in step and, when it truly cannot fit, wraps instead.

2. The explorer / Code / Both / Circuit segmented toggle now hides once
the shared bar is under 760px (its inline display moved to CSS so a
container query can do that). Every switch it had is a checkmarked
row in the View menu: File Explorer, and Code / Both / Circuit as a
radio group under a View mode label. explorerOpen moves from
EditorPage state into useEditorStore so the menu can read it.

David Montero Crespo 980c564f66 Revert "ux(editor): the pristine starter picker is a screen, not a modal"
This reverts commit c93d954169655d5f6f6a4cc1a68ad31b4cdd77e4.
2026-08-08 06:24:47 +02:00
David Montero Crespo 3dd780503f ux(editor): the pristine starter picker is a screen, not a modal
A modal over a pristine /editor dims an interface that is empty anyway
and offers a Cancel whose only destination is a dead workspace. The
picker now takes over the content area (StarterScreen): no veil, no
Cancel, the grid gets the room the 840px dialog never had, and the
examples gallery link is the secondary path out. The modal stays for
"New workspace" over existing work, where the replace-everything
warning and Cancel mean something — both shells share one card grid.

The details that make the takeover behave like a page: it sits at
z-index 90 (above the canvas' floating zoom pill, below the header's
stacking context so the menu dropdowns stay clickable; the fixed
account corner box is render-gated instead), the panes underneath are
inert while it is up, focus lands on the heading on mount and parks on
the workspace container on dismissal, and any path that fills the
workspace meanwhile — the File-menu modal, Open project…, a dropped
.vlx — dismisses it rather than letting its cards silently wipe the
loaded work. Full editor.newProject i18n for all nine locales (German
in Sie-form), heading outline h1→h2 / h3→h4, token focus ring, and
reduced-motion respected.

David Montero Crespo 5a71023ac9 fix(camera-toggle): toolbar-wide ant line gone; ants only while running
The toggle's attention border reused the .velxio-ants class name, which
is ALSO the canvas selection outline whose ::after is position:absolute
- on the non-positioned button it anchored to the toolbar and drew a
marching-ant line across its full width. Renamed the button variant to
.velxio-btn-ants. The ants also showed while the simulation was stopped;
now they only run when the sketch is running and the camera is off (the
only moment the button is actually asking for a click).

David Montero Crespo e9053f73fe ui(editor): one control height and one blue across the toolbar strip
Every control in the unified strip is now 28px tall: tb-btn (was 30),
Libraries (was 26), the C++/MicroPython select (was ~22), the board
selector, Serial/Scope, canvas icon buttons, zoom and Add (all were 32).
The explorer toggle moves inside the Code/Both/Circuit segmented group
as its first segment, and every active-segment blue is the Libraries
blue (var(--color-action-primary)) instead of the hardcoded #0e639c.

The editor zone's overlap floor becomes min-width: max-content — the
hardcoded 280px sat below the real content width, letting the console
button paint over the board selector when the docked chat narrowed the
bar. Now the zone can never shrink under its buttons; flex-wrap moves
the canvas controls to a second line instead. Also closes the gap
between the logo and the File menu (header gap 16->6, menubar
margin-left 14->2).

David Montero Crespo 155513a493 fix(editor): account footer is the account alone; language rides elsewhere
The bottom-left block read wrong: a globe crowding the account button for
no gain — language already lives in the menubar's Language menu for
everyone, and (for signed-in users) inside the account menu. The footer
now holds only the account button.

Width-aware, as requested: when the explorer is dragged narrow (footer
under 150px, via container query) the username hides and the avatar
alone identifies the account; with the explorer collapsed, the floating
fallback box shows just the circle.

Adds the OSS half of the crash fix: LocaleSync listens for
'velxio-locale-switch' window events and performs the locale change as a
normal SPA navigation. The pro account menu is injected into its own
React root OUTSIDE the Router, so it cannot navigate itself — its
language rows dispatch this event instead.

David Montero Crespo 3b7abfc4f7 feat(editor): account block fuses into the explorer footer
The floating corner box sat ON TOP of the file tree — create enough files
and the last rows scrolled underneath it. The account + language block is
now the explorer panel's footer (VS Code style): the tree scrolls above
it, always. When the explorer is collapsed the block falls back to the
small fixed corner box, so account and language stay reachable.

The standalone language globe becomes a logged-out affordance: once the
pro auth slot renders its signed-in marker (data-auth-user), a :has()
rule hides the globe — signed-in users change language inside the
account menu, where the pro overlay now hosts it.
2026-07-30 20:54:24 +02:00
David Montero Crespo 3100d453c2 feat(editor): language + account move to a bottom-left corner box
IDE-style: a small fixed box in the explorer's quiet bottom corner holds
the language switcher and the account button (pro keeps injecting it into
the same data-velxio-slot, just relocated). The autosave dot rides next
to the menus, and the header's Share button is gone — File > Share/Embed
already covers it.

The point is width: emptying the header's right side gives the toolbar
the last ~150px it needed, so the single-row layout now holds down to
~1400px WITH the chat docked — which is exactly the reported 1440x900
case. Tight-fallback thresholds drop accordingly (1400/1060/1040).

Desktop-editor variant only; marketing pages and mobile keep their
header untouched.
2026-07-30 19:52:58 +02:00
David Montero Crespo fff5823543 fix(editor): no awkward middle state for the in-header strip
At 1440x900 with the chat docked, the merged header hit an ugly in-between:
the wrapped canvas controls floated as an orphan group inside a tall
transparent header, next to a dead gap before the language/user controls.
Reported by the user as "se ve raro" — wider screens looked fine.

Below the width where one row genuinely fits (thresholds account for the
docked chat's 380px / collapsed 36px reservation), the strip now falls
back to being its own full-width second bar with its old background and
border — the exact familiar pre-merge layout. Wide screens keep the
single 44px row; tight screens get the classic two bars; the broken-
looking limbo between them no longer exists.
2026-07-30 19:43:31 +02:00
David Montero Crespo ffb4fc0159 feat(editor): toolbar rides inside the header — one row, not two
With the marketing nav gone from the editor header, its middle was ~700px
of dead space at 1280 while the toolbar occupied a whole second 38px bar.
The unified toolbar strip now fills that middle through a new AppHeader
editorToolbar slot: one 44px row where there used to be 44+38 — a full
row returned to the code and the canvas.

The strip keeps its own class names, so everything that keyed on them
keeps working untouched: the container queries, the docked-chat
padding-right, and the internal flex-wrap. When it truly cannot fit, the
strip wraps and the header grows (height: auto on the modifier class)
instead of clipping or overlapping; brand and the right-side controls
stay pinned to the first line. Inside the header the strip drops its own
background and border so it reads as one bar, not a box within a bar.

Mobile keeps the previous layout (no strip; the mobile tab bar remains).

David Montero 3934cbc0f8 fix(editor): stop unified toolbar controls overlapping on a narrow bar
The top bar packs three zones onto one row: the view-mode toggle, the editor
actions (Compile/Run/Stop/...), and the canvas controls (board selector,
Serial, Scope, zoom, Add) portaled in from SimulatorCanvas. The editor zone
was flex:1 min-width:0 while the canvas zone was fixed-width, so when the bar
narrowed - mainly when the right-docked AI chat opens - the editor zone shrank
below its own buttons and painted them over the board selector / Serial /
Scope. The existing collapse logic was keyed to the viewport (@media 768px),
so it never fired on a wide screen with the chat open.

Make the shared bar a container-query context and collapse every zone by the
bar's own width instead of the viewport: view-mode labels drop to icons first,
then Serial/Scope/Add labels and the board selector ellipsizes, then the
component count and finally the zoom buttons (wheel-zoom still works). Floor
the editor zone at its collapsed content width so it can never underflow and
overlap; past that the lower-priority canvas controls yield toward the right
edge instead. Verified across bar widths 660-1140px with the AI chat open:
overlap eliminated, dropdown menus still render un-clipped.

David Montero eb6a59adf6 style(ui): unify every interactive surface on the single #0071e3 accent
Sweep all off-brand blues (#007acc logo-blue, #0e639c, #3b82f6) and the neon
cyan family (#4fc3f7, #00b8d4, #00e5ff, rgba 0,184,212 / 0,122,204) across the
editor, simulator, examples gallery and pages to var(--color-action-primary).
The Code/Both/Circuit toggle, board chips, library manager, modals etc. now
match the Libraries / +Add buttons. Also keep the editor Libraries label
visible in the default split (lower the container-query threshold).
2026-06-21 05:34:25 +02:00
David Montero Crespo 70cc8c2e11 feat(editor): view-mode toggle, agent-chat slot, toolbar polish
Changes that ship to OSS — all benign for self-hosters, but most are
extension points the velxio-prod overlay (and any private fork) needs to
plug an in-editor AI chat into the page.

Editor:
- 3-way view-mode toggle (code / both / circuit) in the unified toolbar.
Lets users hide a pane to give a right-docked sidebar (e.g. the AI
chat overlay) more breathing room. Persisted in useEditorStore.
- Default file explorer narrower (210 → 165 px); min 110.
- Removed the redundant `tb-board-pill` (icon + "Editing: X" tooltip);
the BoardSelector dropdown elsewhere already shows the active board.
- Inlined Import/Export/Upload-firmware buttons; the 3-dot overflow
menu gave up too much discoverability. Removed dead overflow state.

Simulator:
- Fix: global Delete/Backspace handler in SimulatorCanvas no longer
fires when the event target is an INPUT/TEXTAREA/SELECT/contentEditable
  — affected any in-page text field, not just the chat overlay.

Overlay extensibility:
- New `data-velxio-slot="agent-chat"` at the bottom of EditorPage so
pro overlays can portal a chat panel into the editor without
  forking the page.
- vite.config.ts: preserveSymlinks=true when VITE_PRO_BUILD is set.
Lets local-dev junctions (overlay tree → frontend/src/pro) resolve
bare imports back to the OSS node_modules without resolving symlinks.

Deps:
- Added react-markdown + remark-gfm (rendered chat output) and
@google/genai + zod (overlay agent loop). Tree-shaken from the OSS
bundle when no pro code imports them.

gitignore:
- Ignore backend/app/pro/ and frontend/src/pro/ junctions used by
developers running a private overlay against the OSS dev server.

davidmonterocrespo24 e0dbde0a76 feat(design): tokens, webfonts, Lucide icons, board PNG/WebP picture strip
Foundation
- Add 7 token CSS files in src/tokens/ — semantic colors, 4-pt spacing,
  Apple-HIG type ramp, radius/elevation/motion/z-index scales.
- Refactor src/index.css to import tokens and remap legacy aliases
(--accent, --bg, etc.) onto the new --color-* semantics so existing
  components keep rendering during migration.
- Drop the duplicate font-family from src/App.css; body inherits from :root.
- Global *:focus-visible ring backed by --color-focus-ring (WCAG 2.4.7).

Webfonts (self-hosted)
- Add Inter.var.woff2 (variable, OFL) and JetBrainsMono.var.woff2 to
public/fonts/. Preloaded in index.html with crossorigin.
- Old stack -apple-system kept as fallback so Mac users still get SF Pro.
- Fixes cross-OS rendering inconsistency (Win/Linux/Android were falling
back to Segoe UI / Roboto, breaking the type grid).

Component primitives
- New src/components/ui/{Button,Card,Input}.tsx + .css. Built on the
semantic tokens, ready for incremental migration of .ap-* CSS classes.

Lucide icons
- Replace 6 inline SVG icon components in LandingPage (IcoChip / IcoCpu /
IcoCode / IcoZap / IcoLayers / IcoMonitor) with lucide-react imports.
Aliased so call sites are unchanged. ~80 lines of inline SVG removed.
- IcoGitHub kept bespoke (filled glyph, brand-correct).

Marketing assets
- Convert top 8 boards to transparent PNG + WebP at 1x / 2x:
Arduino Uno, Nano, Mega 2560, Pi Pico, Pi Pico W, ESP32-C3,
  ESP32-DevKit-V1, XIAO ESP32-S3.
- Migrate matching cards in LandingPage and Velxio2Page to <picture>
with WebP > PNG > SVG fallback. Other 8 boards keep <img src=*.svg>
for now (Raspberry Pi 3B, ESP32-CAM, etc.).
- Refresh og-image.png — same canonical URL, new content (4 hero boards
+ branding instead of generic logo card).
- Fix latent bug in LandingPage: ESP32 DevKit V1 card was loading
  esp32-devkit-c-v4.svg; now uses esp32-devkit-v1.{webp,png,svg}.

Build verified: npm run build:docker succeeds, 246 SEO pages prerender.

David Montero Crespo 6a88375bc0 feat: persist multi-board projects + add auto-save
The project save/load pipeline only persisted a single `board_type`, so
multi-board workspaces silently lost every board except the active one
on save, and wires referencing the dropped boards' IDs orphaned to the
canvas corner on reload. An audit of the production backup found 74/306
projects (24%) with at least one orphaned wire and 174/301 non-trivial
projects whose code was still the default Blink template — strong signal
that users save once and never re-save.

Backend
- Add `boards_json` column on `projects` with idempotent ALTER TABLE in
  the lifespan migration list.
- New `FileGroup` schema + `file_groups` array on
  ProjectCreate/Update/Response. Legacy `files`/`code` kept for back-compat.
- `project_files.py` now uses `{pid}/{groupId}/{filename}` subdirs via
`read_groups`/`write_groups`. Legacy flat layouts are auto-promoted on
read; legacy single-list `files` only updates the active group, leaving
  other boards' files intact.
- `_persist_files_from_body` honors file_groups → files → code priority.

Frontend
- `useSimulatorStore.addBoard` accepts an optional `explicitId` so
saved board IDs can be restored verbatim (wires reference IDs literally).
- New `loadProjectState({boards, fileGroups, components, wires,
activeBoardId})` action: tears down current boards, recreates from the
payload, restores file groups atomically, recalculates wire positions
on the next frame, and refreshes the Interconnect.
- `useEditorStore.replaceFileGroups` for atomic multi-group restore.
- `SaveProjectModal` and `ProjectByIdPage`/`ProjectPage` now go through
  `buildSavePayload` / `buildLoadPayload` (handles pre-backfill projects
by synthesising a default board from `board_type`).

Auto-save (#useAutoSaveProject hook)
- 2.5s debounced silent PUT triggered ONLY when an authenticated user
has a `currentProject` with a UUID. State hash detects real changes
vs. UI-only churn; baseline is reset on project load so the just-loaded
  state isn't immediately re-saved.
- `beforeunload` flush via `fetch keepalive: true` (supports PUT +
  credentials, survives unload).
- Compact status indicator in `AppHeader` (idle/dirty/saving/saved/error).

Backfill script (one-off, idempotent)
- `backend/scripts/backfill_boards_2026_05.py` populates `boards_json`
for legacy projects. Heuristic per project, based on which board IDs
  the wires reference:
    Case A — wires only ref 'arduino-uno' but board_type ≠ uno:
rename id→board_type and rewrite wire endpoints.
    Case B — single-board normal: keep verbatim.
Case C — multi-board: recreate one board per distinct ref, infer
kind by stripping trailing -N suffix.
Also moves any flat files into the active board's group subdir.
  Stdlib-only, runs from host or `docker exec`.

Docker
- `Dockerfile.standalone` now copies `backend/scripts/` into the image
so the backfill is callable via `docker exec velxio-app python
  /app/scripts/backfill_boards_2026_05.py --apply`.

Verified locally on the restored production backup (363 projects):
33 Case A, 316 Case B, 14 Case C, 135 wire endpoints renamed, 0 orphans.
Re-running the script after apply skips all 363 (idempotent).
